Re: My 80 Trans Am
Car is not really all that straight terry but it's getting there, pretty solid though.I love the roll cage but was a bit uncomfortable lying in that tiny boot drilling holes.Cage don't seem to fit my car though, well the two bits in the boot don't,just got to decide what to do with them,a few washers between them and the floor or leave them out.
Just wondering if i have bolted it in slightly in the wrong place.Hopefully Kev will know from this pics, are they too far back?
Drivers side in boot.
Passenger side.

Re: My 80 Trans Am
Other jobs i have done so far is re wiring all front lights, fitted a relay for headlights, seem to be brighter now.Just fitted a new alternator from Rockauto, seems i ordered wrong one,it's smaller than mine so had to bodge a bracket, not sure if it's working though as when i revved it up voltage went down slightly, might be because battery wasn't fully charged.
Also fitted a brand new wiper motor, wipers still don't work.Nothing seems to go right with this car
Just keep plodding on with it though, money pit, lol.

I do remember putting some packers under the main hoop where it bolted to the floor to get it to fit tight on the parcel shelf

Re: My 80 Trans Am
Thanks for the extra pics Kev,can't put anything under main hoop,it's pretty tight in there, had to use a hammer on it to get it in and it was rubbing against t top trim, although now it's bolted down the top clears roof easily.
Been trying to sort wipers this morning.Had switch off and pulled it apart and cleaned it up,got a clicking now when i switch them on but still don't move.Might have to get another switch.

Re: My 80 Trans Am
Bought some harnesses, just cheapo ones, just got to decide best way of fitting them.I tried one bolted to roof with original seat belt bolt but as it's not central it pulls the harness to one side.
On the passenger side i decided to try it on the roll cage.Had to cut the mounting hook off the harness as they were sewn on,melted end of belt with a lighter so hopefully it won't fray. This is how i like them so will probably do same on drivers side.

No,still same, just left it for now as it's bolted down tight everywhere else.Just wanted to have a full interior again.Just need to decide on the side bars.Gonna be making new door panels so will have to decide on using original arm rest/door pulls and altering the bars or just use different door pulls.

Probably me again which means i will need to strip it down and do it again next year as it will look shit as usual
Can't bring myself to pay for a paint job as i am still not happy with the door skins i fitted, although i know if i took it to a proper paint guy he would sort them, they just bug me so much though.
But would sooner have a rough looking car that i can drive whenever i want than have a mint one just sitting in the garage, scared to take it out when it's wet.

Re: My 80 Trans Am
usable is good, would not want a £3k paint job. only worry me while sliding the back through verges
as long as you get a good thick coat of paint on then just flat it down with fine wet n dry, then polish up with finer grades of cutting compound. then wax. will come out perfect, just takes time
