Did you read my mind. I was going to put a post up asking what shocks do I need and post a link for me x 

I have KYB gas a justs on my 80,ride is really harsh,i was told it was down to the shocks,maybe those might not be as bad.My car is pretty horrible to ride in though.

I don't want a hard ride. My back would not take the pounding.  

probably best to go on rockauto catalogue http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
select shocks and pick from original ride quality (gabrial or Monroe are good, and cheap, less than £30 pair)
then select struts (front) and again go for original ride quality and same makes (only just over £30 pair)
even with shipping works out cheap, especialy if you get some other parts at same time

Yes I do Kev absolutely. But I was only after some shocks
